Touch screen coffee machine hits all the right buttons…

Whilst store visiting in Manchester, we sampled a coffee from the new self-serve touch screen Costa Coffee machine in The Coop. The machine lets you choose your preferred size, milk and any extras all via a touch screen (look...no buttons!).

The machine promises to be “real" coffee and claims it is different from typical hot drink vending machines as they use freshly ground coffee and fresh milk – "no powder, creamer or artificial products for us".

As well as being quicker, it is also cheaper. A regular cup of white coffee from the machine comes in just under £2 compared with £2.45 from a walking, talking barista at Costa.

In him!’s Food to Go Tracking programme shoppers tell us that they WANT improvements in FTG product ranges and speed of service is of the upmost importance to these shoppers – this delivers on both and looks set to be a huge opportunity for the sector.
