It is never too early to start planning for the year ahead – especially when there is a £78.41 average spend at stake! Back to school is a crucial period for retailers and suppliers, therefore it is important to know how to make the most of it.

Back to school doesn’t just mean pens and paper, packed lunch items are included too! These are important to shoppers all year round so don’t let the opportunity lose momentum. On average, more than half of shoppers make a packed lunch for their children every day or most days of the week.

Fruit is the most commonly packed lunch item with 74% of shoppers with kids saying they purchase fruit for the occasion. Healthy options are important to half of shoppers with kids, highlighting that your product is nutritious and healthy is hugely important!   

Convenience store shoppers spend more on packed lunch ingredients per week than the UK average, £7.62 vs £7.90! However, supermarkets dominate in this area, 7 in 10 shoppers use them to source their ingredients whereas only 8% of shoppers are heading to convenience stores.
