1-in-3 UK adults are intending to watch the upcoming Rugby World Cup according to our latest research into consumption and shopping habits. With 1-in-4 saying they're likely to be more 'involved' this time due to it being in the UK, retailers and suppliers can forget shopping trends from previous Rugby World Cups, interest will be higher than ever before thanks to England & Wales playing host.
 
Most people intend to watch the games from home (95%) which opens up plenty of opportunity for retailers, especially with regards to related multi-buy promotions and bigger share-size pack sizes. 72% will be watching in groups.  Retailers need to be creating displays encouraging shoppers to stock up.
 
And more good news, 59% say they will likely to be eating and drinking MORe than usual while watching the games. Great opportunities for alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks and snacking categories. The categories they think they'll be consuming more of (in order!): beer, crisps, soft drinks, hot drinks, cider, nuts, pizza, chocolate, wine and popcorn! Ensure clear visibility and full availability in these categories to avoid lost sales. Promotions are likely to have significant influence over purchasing decisisons - 1-in-2 say promotions will influence their decisison in-store during this time (much higher than usual.)
