Sales boost expected this bank holiday

1-in-5 UK adults say they will be spending more on food and drink for the bank holiday weekend, according to new research from him! research & consulting. Shoppers say they will stock up on certain categories in higher quantities, specifically for the bank holiday weekend, including alcohol, food for BBQs, snacks and soft drinks.
Shoppers are more likely to ‘treat themselves’ (49%) over bank holiday weekends, with 36% intending to ‘consume more alcohol’ and 38% more likely to eat out in a pub or restaurant.
1-in-5 also said they’re likely to buy higher quantities of desserts, chocolate, ice-cream or cakes! It follows that 1-in-2 UK adults say they’re more likely to ‘treat themselves’ over the bank holiday weekend and a third say they worry less about healthy options.
There are also interesting regional differences coming through in our bank holiday spending patterns. 1-in-3 London shoppers expect to spend more for the bank holiday weekend, compared to just 14% in Scotland – retailers and suppliers should prioritise accordingly.
